Denon audio equipment repair

Denon: AVR-X HDMI board rework, PROTECT mode, PMA-1700NE and PMA-600NE full recap, channel relay swap.

3-month warranty

Denon AVR-X series AV receivers are among the most common multi-channel receivers in Latvia, and the bulk of the cases we see involve HDMI board failure on the 8K-capable 2020–2023 models: a burned-out HDMI switch IC, lost video or audio over ARC/eARC, dropouts on 4K HDR. We work at the component level — rebuilding HDMI and DSP boards, re-soldering blown output transistors, repairing power supplies, and replacing oxidised speaker switching relays.

A separate line of work is the PMA series integrated amplifiers (PMA-A110, PMA-1700NE, PMA-900HNE, PMA-600NE). Typical faults are dried-out electrolytic capacitors in the power supply, HDAM module wear, oxidised speaker relay contacts, and output-stage bias drift. We also handle DCD CD players, DP-300F/DP-400/DP-450USB turntables, and the CEOL compact system.

Before any work we agree the cost estimate. If a repair is not economically viable, we say so directly and return the equipment with no obligation. Completed work and installed parts are covered by a 3-month warranty.

Popular models we repair

  • Denon PMA-600NE, PMA-900HNE, PMA-1700NE integrated amplifiers
  • Denon AVR-X1800H, AVR-X2800H AV receivers
  • Denon AVR-X3800H, AVR-X6800H AV receivers
  • Denon DCD-600NE, DCD-900NE CD players
  • Denon DP-450USB turntable
  • Denon CEOL (RCD-N12) compact system

Common problems we fix

  • HDMI board failure — no signal passthrough via AV receiver HDMI inputs or outputs
  • Protection circuit triggers on power-on — receiver or amplifier immediately enters PROTECT mode
  • One channel dead or crackling — output transistor blowout or break in the feedback circuit
  • Capacitor ageing — humming or 50 Hz buzz at the amplifier output
  • Overheating and thermal shutdown during extended listening at moderate volume
  • Remote control IR receiver failure — receiver does not respond to the remote
  • Bluetooth/Wi-Fi module not connecting or dropping the connection
  • Relay clicking but no audio output

Denon AV receiver HDMI and DSP board repair

Denon AVR-X series AV receivers are among the most popular multi-channel receivers on the Latvian market — from the entry-level AVR-X1800H to the flagship AVR-X6800H with 11-channel amplification. The main faults owners bring to us include: HDMI board failure (no video or audio signal passthrough via HDMI, ARC/eARC not working, 4K HDR signal dropout), protection circuit (PROTECT) triggering on power-up or after a few minutes of operation, and failure of one or more amplification channels. The DSP processor in Denon receivers handles Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding as well as Audyssey room correction — DSP board faults manifest as distortion, channel dropout, or complete absence of sound. We work at the component level — replacing HDMI switch ICs, re-soldering failed SMD components on the DSP board, replacing blown output transistors, and swapping oxidised switching relays.

A separate category of issues is Denon receiver overheating during extended Atmos operation with full load on all channels. In the higher-end AVR-X3800H and AVR-X6800H models, thermal performance critically depends on thermal paste condition, heatsink cleanliness, and built-in fan operation. We perform complete cooling system maintenance, replace thermal paste, install additional heatsinks where needed, and verify all temperature sensors. Diagnostics take place on-site at our service centre.

Denon integrated amplifier: power supply and output stage repair

Denon PMA series integrated amplifiers are reliable equipment built to last for decades, but they too require periodic servicing. Models PMA-600NE, PMA-900HNE and PMA-1700NE are built on a classic design with a toroidal transformer and discrete output stage. Characteristic faults include: output transistor failure (one channel goes silent or distorted, amplifier enters protection), dried-out electrolytic capacitors in the power supply (50 Hz hum appears, dynamics drop), oxidised relay contacts (crackling and signal dropout), and output stage bias drift (distortion at low volume). We replace failed transistors with matched pairs to maintain channel balance, perform complete electrolytic capacitor replacement in critical circuits, and clean or replace relays.

Also worth mentioning are the Denon DCD-600NE and DCD-900NE CD players and the CEOL (RCD-N12) compact system. CD players mainly suffer from laser pickup wear and transport mechanism faults. The CEOL system frequently experiences network module issues (HEOS won't connect to Wi-Fi) and built-in CD drive failures. We also repair the Denon DP-450USB turntable — stylus replacement, tonearm adjustment, and drive mechanism repair. All work carries a 3-month warranty.
