Thomson is a French electronics brand with over a century of history, operating today under a licence from the TCL group and offering the European market televisions with a strong price-to-quality ratio. The Thomson range includes QLED models with quantum-dot technology — the 43QG5C14 and 50QG5C14 — alongside classic Full HD and 4K Android TV series such as the 40FA2S13 and 55UA5S13, as well as Roku TV variants for select markets. In Baltic retail Thomson is known as an affordable yet adequately built choice for everyday viewing. At the SATER service centre, located at Silmaču iela 6 in Riga, we have been repairing Thomson televisions for more than three decades — since 1993, when our workshop began operating in the former workshop No. 2 of the Elektrons factory. Our engineers work with every Thomson model — from QLED screens to budget LED sets — carrying out component-level diagnostics with professional test equipment. The scope of work covers LED and QLED backlight strip replacement, power-board capacitor replacement, main-board firmware recovery, T-Con board repair, HDMI ARC correction and Wi-Fi module troubleshooting. Every repair carries a 3-month warranty on the work performed and the parts installed, and we agree the estimate with the customer before starting any work. Our 186 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.3 stars confirm steady trust from Riga residents.

Thomson QLED and LED TV backlight repair
Thomson QLED models — the 43QG5C14 and 50QG5C14 — use a quantum-dot film (QD film) positioned between the LED backlight strips and the liquid-crystal panel. This technology delivers a wider colour gamut and a brighter picture, but the LED strips beneath the QD film are subject to the same wear as in a conventional LED television — and often greater wear, because in QLED mode the strips run at higher brightness. When the LED strips fail, the symptom is the classic one: sound is present but the screen is completely dark, and a bright flashlight held at an angle reveals a very faint image. SATER engineers disassemble the QLED panel with particular care — the QD film and optical sheets must be removed in a clean environment free of dust and fingerprints, because any contamination will be visible on the screen after reassembly. We replace the full set of LED strips, verify the driver output parameters and reassemble the panel.
Backlight repair on the classic Thomson LED models — such as the 40FA2S13 Full HD and the 55UA5S13 4K — follows the standard procedure: we disassemble the panel, test each strip on a current source and replace the full set. After strip replacement we always check the LED driver current and voltage, and if the driver components show signs of overstress we replace those as well. Power-board problems on Thomson televisions typically present as a complete failure to turn on or unstable operation. The most common cause is ageing electrolytic capacitors — we replace them with industrial-quality 105 °C components and verify all output rails on an oscilloscope.
Thomson smart TV software and connectivity repair
Thomson Android TV and Roku TV models are fully fledged smart devices whose main board combines an SoC processor, RAM, eMMC storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules and several HDMI ports with ARC support. When the main board fails, the symptoms can range widely — from a complete failure to boot and an endless logo loop to frozen apps and persistent Wi-Fi dropouts. SATER engineers begin with a systematic diagnostic: we check the supply rails on the main board, measure clock and reset signals, analyse the eMMC state on a programmer and, where possible, examine the UART console output.
HDMI ARC problems on Thomson televisions are one of the most frequent complaints, because many customers use this feature to connect a soundbar. ARC works over the HDMI cable and the CEC protocol, and any fault — from a damaged port to incorrect CEC settings or a firmware glitch in the HDMI controller IC — can result in no audio through the external sound system. We check the HDMI port physically, test the CEC and ARC signals with an analyser, and where necessary replace the HDMI port or restore the main-board firmware.
Sound delay and lip-sync issues are another Thomson Smart TV problem, often linked to audio processor settings or a mismatch between HDMI ARC protocol versions. We determine whether the root cause is in software or hardware and apply the appropriate fix — from settings correction to firmware update or audio-processor IC replacement. After every repair we run a full functional check and return the television with a 3-month warranty.
