Our experience with lithium-ion batteries spans more than 30 years — from workshop No. 2 of the Soviet-era Elektrons factory to a modern service centre at Silmaču iela 6, LV-1012. We completely rebuild 36V and 48V battery packs, replacing every cell with new high-quality SONY, SAMSUNG, MOLICEL or PANASONIC cells. Every rebuilt pack receives a new or fully tested BMS (Battery Management System) board that ensures correct charge and discharge management, protection against overheating, overcurrent and short circuit. We work with all leading e-bike battery brands — Bosch PowerPack and PowerTube, Shimano STEPS, Yamaha PW systems, Bafang conversion kits, as well as Xiaomi and Ninebot electric scooters. E-bike and scooter battery degradation: why range drops
The lithium-ion cells inside e-bike and electric scooter batteries are subject to gradual degradation driven by both cycle count and storage conditions. For a typical e-bike battery at 36V or 48V, manufacturers usually guarantee 500–1,000 full charge cycles, which corresponds to roughly two to five years of active use. Beyond that point the cathode material's crystalline structure changes irreversibly and the cell loses its ability to store energy effectively.
Winter storage is particularly dangerous for e-bike batteries. Leaving a pack in an unheated garage or basement at sub-zero temperatures in a discharged state can cause the BMS to trigger a protective lockout that prevents charging even after the temperature normalises. Moreover, extremely low temperatures can cause metallic lithium to plate onto the anode (lithium plating), which irreversibly reduces capacity and creates a risk of internal short circuit. For this reason we always recommend storing your e-bike battery at room temperature with a 40–60% charge level and topping it up at least once a month during the winter season.
Our rebuild process for 36V and 48V packs
The SATER e-bike battery rebuild process begins with detailed diagnostics. We measure the voltage and internal resistance of every cell group, check BMS board operation and analyse the symptoms described by the customer. Based on the diagnostic data we draw up a repair plan and agree it with the customer before starting work.
Once confirmed, we fully disassemble the battery pack — detach inter-cell connections, remove the old cells and clean the housing. New lithium-ion cells — SONY, SAMSUNG, MOLICEL or PANASONIC — are matched by capacity and internal resistance to ensure uniform performance across the entire pack. Cells are joined by spot welding and tested before the BMS board is installed. After assembly we run a complete charge-discharge cycle to verify actual capacity and BMS protection functions. The entire process takes place at our service centre at Silmaču iela 6 in Riga — we do not accept or ship batteries by post. All battery work carries a 6-month warranty.
