Laptop battery cell replacement and capacity restoration

Replacing laptop battery cells is a more involved process than a simple battery swap. Modern laptops — especially ultrabooks and Apple MacBooks — use glued-in lithium-polymer (Li-Po) cells integrated directly into the computer housing. Older business-class models such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T series and Dell Latitude often still use separate battery packs with standard 18650 or 21700 cylindrical cells.

At our service centre at Silmaču iela 6 we carefully disassemble the battery pack, identify the failed cells and replace them with new SONY, SAMSUNG or PANASONIC cells of matching or higher capacity. For Li-Po batteries, disassembly requires particular care — the cells are bonded to the housing with thermally conductive adhesive, and incorrect removal can puncture a cell with a fire risk. Our engineers are experienced with battery constructions from all major manufacturers. After cell replacement we always carry out BMS calibration — a full discharge to the lowest safe threshold followed by a full charge — so the BMS accurately registers the new capacity. This ensures correct percentage readings in the laptop's operating system.

Apple MacBook battery replacement at SATER

Apple MacBook battery replacement is one of the most frequent jobs at our service centre. MacBook Air (A1466 and later) and MacBook Pro (A1708, A1989, A2338) use glued-in polymer batteries physically bonded to the aluminium chassis with a specialist adhesive. The Apple battery's BMS board is built into the battery itself and carries a unique serial number checked by the SMC (System Management Controller).

Our process begins with a full disassembly of the laptop — we remove the bottom panel, disconnect the battery connector from the logic board and carefully detach the glued-in battery using a specialist solvent and plastic pry tools to avoid short circuits or damage to surrounding components. The new battery is installed with fresh thermally conductive adhesive, the BMS connector is seated, and we run a full calibration cycle. After replacement we check the readings in CoconutBattery or System Information — the cycle count should read 0 and the health indicator 100%. MacBook battery replacements carry a 6-month warranty. All work is performed at our service centre at Silmaču iela 6, Riga — the device must be brought in person.
