Electric scooter battery pack diagnostics and cell replacement
We begin electric scooter battery diagnostics by measuring the voltage and internal resistance of every cell group. A typical Xiaomi M365 battery contains 10 series groups of 3 cells each (10s3p configuration, 30 cells total), while the Ninebot MAX G30 uses a 10s3p layout with higher-capacity 18650 or 21700 cells. High-power Dualtron models feature 16s or even 20s configurations with 60V and 72V nominal voltage. Each cell group is individually tested with a precision internal-resistance tester — any cell reading above 80 mΩ is flagged as degraded and marked for replacement.
After diagnostics the customer receives a detailed report showing the condition of every group along with a recommendation — full or partial rebuild. During a full rebuild we replace every cell with new SONY VTC6, Samsung 30Q/40T, MOLICEL P42A or Panasonic NCR18650GA cells, chosen according to the required current and capacity profile. Cells are matched by capacity (within ±50 mAh) and internal resistance to ensure even load distribution. Connections are made by spot welding with pure nickel strip, which provides low contact resistance and long-term durability. After assembly we run a complete charge-discharge cycle with precise capacity measurement.
BMS repair and reprogramming for electric scooters
The BMS (Battery Management System) board is the brain of an electric scooter battery: it monitors every cell group voltage, controls charge and discharge current, provides thermal protection and manages cell balancing. When the BMS detects an anomaly — for example, one group dropping below 2.5V or exceeding 4.25V — it locks out the battery to prevent a hazardous condition. This protection mechanism often triggers after extended storage, when self-discharge pulls cell voltage below the BMS minimum threshold.
At our service centre we diagnose BMS boards at the component level. We test the MOSFET power transistors that switch the charge and discharge paths, balancing IC chips, temperature sensors (NTC thermistors) and the communication interface with the scooter controller. A common failure is a burned discharge MOSFET — the scooter powers on but the motor controller does not receive full power. After repair we calibrate the BMS with a full charge-discharge cycle so the board accurately learns the new cells' capacity and voltage ranges. Certain models (e.g. the Ninebot series) require firmware reprogramming with a dedicated diagnostic tool to clear error codes and unlock the BMS. Our engineers are experienced with both simple 30A BMS boards (Xiaomi M365) and complex 60A-plus systems with CAN bus communication (Dualtron, Segway). All BMS repair work is covered by our standard 3-month warranty; when cells are replaced at the same time, the warranty extends to 6 months.
