Makita 18V LXT and 40V XGT battery rebuild
The Makita 18V LXT battery platform is one of the most widely used among professionals and DIY enthusiasts in Latvia. Over time, the lithium-ion cells in BL1850B, BL1860B and BL1830B packs degrade: capacity drops below 50%, the tool runs for just a few minutes instead of the expected 20–40, and the DC18RC or DC18RD charger starts blinking red, refusing to charge the pack. We carry out full battery pack diagnostics: testing each cell's voltage and internal resistance individually, checking the BMS (battery management system) board and the contact assembly. Degraded cells are replaced with new, high-quality elements of matching or improved specifications. After the rebuild, the battery undergoes a full charge-discharge cycle for calibration and capacity verification.
The newer Makita 40V XGT platform (BL4025, BL4040, BL4050F packs) can also be rebuilt using the same approach. A battery rebuild costs 2–3 times less than purchasing a new original pack, and the rebuilt battery performs like new. Battery cell replacement carries a 6-month warranty. Makita rotary hammer, angle grinder and drill repair
Makita HR series rotary hammers are workhorses on construction sites across Latvia. The HR2470 and HR2611FT models with SDS-Plus chucks are used extensively for drilling into concrete, brick and stone. The main faults include: impact mechanism wear (striker pin, piston, sealing rings), armature burnout from overload or construction dust ingress, helical gear wear in the transmission, and spindle bearing failure. We fully disassemble the rotary hammer, inspect every sub-assembly, replace worn components, and reassemble with fresh lubricant. After repair, the tool undergoes a load test.
Makita GA5030 and GA9020 angle grinders are another high-volume tool in our practice. Characteristic faults include: armature burnout (winding blackens and shorts to the housing), bevel gear wear in the gearbox (play and grinding appear), carbon brush sparking (brushes worn down or armature commutator contaminated), and trigger switch failure. Cordless models DGA504 and DGA518 additionally suffer from motor controller and battery contact issues. All of these faults are repairable, spare parts for Makita tools are available through European suppliers. All work carries a 3-month warranty.
