Cecotec Conga robot vacuum repair

Cecotec Conga repair: LiDAR motor bearings, 11090 Spin water-tank gasket, brush motor and 14.4 V battery rebuilds.

3-month warranty

Across the Cecotec Conga range we most often see swollen Li-ion battery packs at 18–24 months, mopping-module leaks onto the floor, main brush motor burnout, oxidised charging contacts and cliff-sensor false triggers on a flat floor. The lineup is broad — entry Conga 1090/1290/1990/2090 use random-bounce navigation, while the mid and top models (5090, 6090, 7090, 9090, 11090) move to a vSLAM camera or a LiDAR turret with its own characteristic failure: bearing whistle after 1.5–3 years. Cecotec's aggressive price-to-feature ratio makes Conga a popular choice, but the vendor saves money on cheap Chinese 18650 cells, which is exactly why a pack rebuild on quality cells is one of the highest-value jobs we do.

We diagnose with an oscilloscope, handle SMD work on a hot-air station and verify sensor signals with a logic analyser. LiDAR bearings are replaced individually rather than swapping the whole module; in the mopping system we change gaskets, the pump and the solenoid valve. Battery rebuilds use fresh Li-ion cells with a 6-month warranty; all other repairs carry 3 months. Diagnostics are obligation-free — if you decide not to proceed, the device goes back to you as-is.

Common problems we fix

  • LiDAR motor bearing noise — distinctive whistling or grinding when the turret spins
  • Mopping module leak — water runs onto the floor instead of through the mop cloth
  • Main brush motor burnout — motor will not start or turns slowly with a burning smell
  • Cliff sensor false triggers — robot reports an edge error on a flat floor
  • Dock alignment issues — robot finds the base but cannot dock accurately
  • App connectivity loss — the Cecotec app loses the robot or fails to update the map
  • Water tank pump failure — mopping mode does not spray water
  • Side brush gear stripped — brush clicks but will not spin or spins intermittently

Cecotec Conga LiDAR and mopping system repair

The top-tier Cecotec Conga models (9090, 11090 Spin) use LiDAR laser navigation combined with an active mopping system that includes a water pump, an electronic valve and a vibrating or spinning mop plate. This combination makes the Conga a versatile cleaning robot but also increases the number of potential failure points. The LiDAR module is similar to other Chinese-manufactured LDS sensors — bearing wear after 1.5 to 3 years is the most common issue, producing a distinctive whistling or grinding noise as the turret spins. If the bearings are not replaced in time, the motor can stall completely and the robot loses its ability to map the room.

In the mopping system the most frequent fault is a deteriorated water tank gasket, which causes water to leak directly onto the floor instead of passing through the mop cloth. We replace the gaskets, test the pump and inspect the solenoid valve. On the Conga 11090 Spin with its rotating mop we additionally check the mop motor and its control circuit. After every repair we run a full test cycle — both vacuuming and mopping — to confirm complete functionality.

Main brush motor repair and cliff sensor calibration

The main brush motor is one of the most frequently repaired Conga components. The Conga series uses a combined brush system — a rubber extractor and a bristle roller in a single module. If hair and threads are not cleared from the brush regularly, the motor overloads and can burn out. Symptoms include a burning smell, slow rotation or complete motor stall. We replace the motor, test the control board, adjust the brush mechanism and replace stripped side-brush gears that click but no longer turn.

Cliff-sensor false triggers and dock alignment failures are the other two characteristic Conga complaints. The optical cliff sensors on the underside react to infrared reflection — a dark rug or glossy laminate can mimic an edge and force the robot to stop on a flat floor. We clean the sensor lenses, check the ribbon cables and, if a sensor still misreads, recalibrate or replace it. Dock alignment problems are usually caused by oxidised charging contacts or a shifted IR beacon LED — we restore them by cleaning contacts and testing the dock power board. All repairs carry a 3-month warranty.
