What do Error 5 or Error 6 mean?

On Roborock, Error 5 indicates a main brush problem and Error 6 a side brush problem. On iRobot Roomba, Error 1 and Error 6 relate to the brush motor or mechanical jam.

Robot brush not spinning — main and side brush repair in Riga

If your robot’s main brush or side brush will not spin and the display shows Error 5 or Error 6 (Roborock), Error 1 or Error 6 (iRobot), the usual culprits are tangled hair, worn gears or a failed brush motor. Likely causes

Hair and threads wrapped around the brush axle — Even a small amount of hair can jam the motor — the robot throws Error 5 and stops.
Worn plastic gears in the brush assembly — Over time the gears slip or crack — the motor spins but the brush does not.
Failed brush motor — The motor winding has burned out or the brushes are worn — a motor replacement is required.
Brush motor driver fault on the mainboard — The MOSFET or driver powering the brush motor has burned out — the motor does not spin at all.
Side brush module with a failed magnet — On Dreame and Xiaomi models a side brush module with a damaged Hall sensor throws E1 or E2.

What you can check yourself

Remove the main brush and clear all hair and threads from it — a cleaning hook or pair of scissors makes this easier.
Check that the brush axle spins freely by hand at both ends and clean the end caps.
Remove the side brush as well and check for hair or debris trapped underneath it.
Vacuum the air channel under the brush and make sure the main brush springs back freely after reinserting it.

If after cleaning the brush still will not spin or the motor cannot be heard, the problem is in the motor, the gears or the mainboard. We replace brush motors, rebuild damaged gear assemblies and, if required, repair the brush driver on the mainboard.
