Robot navigation error — LiDAR or camera failure, repair in Riga

Navigation errors — the robot will not map your room, bumps into walls, Roborock throws Error 1 or Error 2, iRobot shows Error 14 — usually come down to the LiDAR turret, the camera or the IR sensors. Likely causes

  • Worn LiDAR turret bearingThe turret starts whining loudly or stops completely, Roborock shows Error 1 or Error 21 — typical on S6 and S7 models.
  • Dirty or damaged laser windowDust and scratches on the LDS window block the laser and the robot can no longer measure distances.
  • Faulty front camera (vSLAM models)iRobot Roomba i7/j7 and Dreame L-series camera failures throw Error 14 or simply refuse to build a map.
  • Failed IR distance sensorsSide and front IR sensors lose sensitivity and the robot crashes into dark objects or furniture.
  • Mainboard or firmware faultAfter a failed firmware update the navigation module fails to load — Error 2 on Roborock.

What you can check yourself

  1. Wipe the LiDAR turret window and front camera with a soft cloth to remove dust and greasy fingerprints.
  2. Check that the LiDAR turret spins freely by finger and listen for any loud whine or friction noise.
  3. Clean the IR sensors on the front and sides of the robot.
  4. Perform a full restart (hold the power button for 10–20 seconds) and try to map a small room.

When to bring it in

If the LiDAR turret whines loudly, stops turning or the robot keeps throwing navigation errors after cleaning, the LDS bearing, motor or the entire LiDAR module needs replacing. We also repair cameras, resolder faulty sensors and restore firmware.
