The LG NeoChef with Smart Inverter line represents LG's flagship microwave ovens, where magnetron power is regulated by an inverter board rather than a conventional high-voltage transformer. The inverter feeds the magnetron with precisely dosed power from 100 to 1 000 W, delivering even heating and gentle defrosting without overheating product edges.
When a NeoChef inverter board fails, the most common culprit is the power IGBT transistor — it punches through during a mains voltage spike or from overheating when ventilation slots are blocked. The characteristic symptom: the microwave turns on, the light is on, the turntable spins, but food stays cold. We diagnose the inverter board at the component level: checking the IGBT, gate driver, electrolytic capacitors, current shunt and voltage feedback. Replacing a single transistor costs a fraction of swapping the entire board. If the magnetron has lost emission (it runs but delivers less than 50 % of rated power), we replace it with a compatible equivalent. After every repair we verify chamber radiation levels and door interlock switch operation.
LG microwave door mechanism and safety interlock repair
The door mechanism of an LG microwave is more than a hinge and a latch. Inside sit 2–3 microswitches (interlock switches) that perform a critical safety function: they cut the magnetron and high-voltage circuit the moment the door opens. If even one switch does not engage when the door closes, the microwave will not start — this is the designed safety behaviour, not a malfunction. Over time, however, the microswitch contacts wear and the door must be closed firmly or pressed several times before the unit responds.
We replace worn microswitches with new ones of identical specification, check the latch mechanism for play and wear, and adjust the door hook position. On grill and convection models we also inspect the door seal — if it has deformed, hot air can escape, reducing convection efficiency and creating a burn risk. LG door hinges also wear over time: the door begins to sag or no longer sits flush. We replace the hinges and adjust the fit to ensure the cavity is sealed. All of this work includes a mandatory post-assembly chamber radiation check — customer safety is our first priority.
