Induction cooktop zone not working — not heating, repair in Riga

If one or more zones on your induction cooktop have stopped heating — clicking, blinking, showing an error code, or simply not responding to cookware — this is one of the most common issues we see from owners of built-in hobs by Bosch, Siemens, Electrolux, AEG and other brands. SATER service centre has been operating at Silmaču iela 6 in Riga since 1993 — over 30 years in the same location, from the workshops of the former Soviet-era "Elektrons" factory to a modern repair facility. We repair induction cooktops at component level: replacing blown IGBT transistors, resonant capacitors, resoldering detached coils, restoring control boards and pan-detection sensors. Diagnostics are performed on-site — we connect the hob to a test bench, check each zone under load, and pinpoint the exact failed component. Repair costs are agreed with the customer before work begins: if you decide not to proceed, we return the hob with no obligations. All completed work carries a 3-month warranty. We do not offer postal shipping — appliances must be brought to the service centre in person. Our experience spans all major induction hob platforms: BSH (Bosch/Siemens), Electrolux/AEG, Whirlpool, Gorenje and Beko. Our 186 Google reviews with a 4.3-star rating reflect the quality of our work.

Possible causes

  • Blown IGBT power transistor — zone clicks but does not heatThe IGBT is the power switch that creates the high-frequency magnetic field in the coil. When it fails short, the zone relay clicks but no heating occurs. The transistor and its driver circuit need to be replaced.
  • Inductor coil desoldered or crackedThermal cycling (heating and cooling) can crack the solder joints on the coil, or the coil itself may suffer mechanical damage. The zone is completely dead — no click, no indicator light.
  • Control board capacitor failureElectrolytic and film capacitors in the resonance and filter circuits degrade from heat. The hob may power on, but the zone shuts off after a few seconds with an error.
  • Pan detection sensor malfunction — zone blinks and turns offThe hob detects cookware by sensing inductance changes in the coil. If the sensor or its circuit is faulty, the zone indicator blinks and the zone shuts off, even with compatible cookware.
  • Cracked glass ceramic — safety shutdown activatesA crack in the glass ceramic surface breaks the seal and can allow moisture to reach the electronics. The hob triggers its safety system and shuts down all zones.
  • Cooling fan dead — overheating protection triggersA fan beneath the hob dissipates heat from the IGBT modules and coils. If it stops, the electronics overheat and the protection circuit shuts the zone down after 1–2 minutes of operation.

What you can check yourself

  1. Test with known ferromagnetic cookware: place a pan that a magnet sticks to on the zone. Aluminium, copper and glass cookware will not work on induction.
  2. Check whether the zone displays an error code — note it down, as this will speed up diagnostics at the service centre.
  3. Try a different zone on the same hob — if the other zones work, the problem is isolated to one power channel.
  4. Verify the circuit breaker in your distribution board — induction hobs draw 7–11 kW and the breaker may have tripped.
  5. Listen for the relay click when you switch the zone on. No click means a control-board-level issue; a click with no heat points to an IGBT or coil failure.

When to bring it to the shop

If your checks point to an electronics fault (the zone clicks but does not heat, blinks and shuts off, or shows an error), it is time to bring the hob to SATER service centre at Silmaču iela 6 in Riga. We will connect the hob to a diagnostic bench, test the IGBT transistors, capacitors, coils and control board for each zone. We will quote the repair cost before starting any work. If you decide not to proceed, we return the hob with no obligations. We do not offer delivery — the appliance must be brought in person.
