Festool power tool repair

Festool TID/TPC/TXS, TS 55, ETS, OF 1400, Domino, CT: Plug-it socket, brushless electronics, OF gearbox, BP 18 battery rebuild.

3-month warranty

Festool is the tool owners hold onto for 15–20 years and don't replace, and our job is to keep it that way. OF router and ETS sander housings are precision-machined aluminium, the gearboxes are built for tens of thousands of hours of work, and the Plug-it architecture (a universal mains-cable connector shared across every corded Festool tool) is deliberately designed so the cable is the consumable rather than the tool. That shapes how we repair Festool: rarely a whole assembly, usually a specific wear point — and almost always inside 25–40% of the price of a new model.

The typical workload is what we see every week: a TS 55 plunge saw that will not start (eight times out of ten it is a worn Plug-it cable or socket; replacement is a 30–60 minute job), an ETS 150 / RO 150 random-orbit sander that has lost its smooth motion (the eccentric-shaft bearing, rated for 3,000–5,000 hours under medium load), an OF 1400 router humming with spindle play (worn bevel gears in the gearbox plus support bearings), a CT 26/36 dust extractor that no longer starts in sync with the connected tool through SYS-Dock (the autostart relay board), a TXS 18 screwdriver running flat fast (the diagnosis is either cells inside the BP 18 pack or the BMS). The Domino DF 500/700 is its own chapter — it is a precision tool, and any play or unevenness in the guide rails shows up immediately in the joint quality.

We cover the full lineup: cordless TID 18, TPC 18, TXS 18, KAL 18, T18+3, HKC 55/85 circular saws, PSC jigsaws; corded TS 55, TS 75, EHL 65 planers, ETS 125/150, RO 90/125/150, OF 1010/1400/2200, Domino DF 500/700, HK 55/85 circular saws; CT 26/36/48 SYS dust extractors with the SYS-Dock interface. Spares for most models are available through European distributors for 8–12 years after discontinuation, and Festool publishes its service catalogue with exploded-view drawings — a rare manufacturer attitude toward repairability, and one that materially shortens our turnaround. We agree the cost before any work; on-site diagnostics is free. Battery cell replacements carry a 6-month warranty; everything else, 3 months.

Popular models we repair

  • Festool TID 18 / TPC 18 / TXS 18 — cordless impact and screwdrivers
  • Festool TS 55 / TS 75 — plunge saws
  • Festool ETS 125 / ETS 150 / RO 90 / RO 125 / RO 150 — sanders
  • Festool OF 1010 / OF 1400 / OF 2200 — routers
  • Festool Domino DF 500 / DF 700 — domino joiners
  • Festool HK 55 / HK 85 — circular saws
  • Festool CT 26 / CT 36 / CT 48 — Systainer dust extractors

Common problems we fix

  • Plug-it socket worn or cracked — tool will not start, poor mains cable contact
  • TS 55 / OF 1400 will not start — Plug-it socket, switch, or soft-start board
  • ETS / RO random-orbit sander has lost smooth motion — worn bearing or eccentric pad
  • OF 1400 router noisy with spindle play — gearbox gears and bearing wear
  • TID/TPC/TXS battery board unresponsive — brushless controller or thermal sensor failure
  • BP 18 battery will not hold charge — Li-Ion cell degradation, BMS fault
  • CT dust extractor will not start with the tool — autostart board or fouled connector
  • Domino DF 500/700 binding on plunge — guide rail wear
  • Trigger switch or speed dial will not lock speed — oxidised contacts

Plug-it and Systainer — why Festool is repaired differently

Festool is built around two signature systems that directly shape the repair approach. The first is Plug-it: a universal mains-cable connector shared across most corded tools (TS 55, OF 1010/1400, ETS 125/150, Domino, HK circular saws). The cable detaches from the tool and clips into another, which is convenient on a jobsite, but the connector contacts wear over time — this is the most common reason behind a "tool will not start" complaint. Replacing the Plug-it socket and/or cable is a relatively simple procedure, and we usually keep typical sockets in stock.

The second system is Systainer: modular cases that house not only tools but also CT-series dust extractors (CT 26/36/48 SYS) with a SYS-Dock interface. That means an autostart board fault on the extractor (failure to start in sync with the tool) is a common visit, and we repair CT-extractor electronics at the component level. Turbine bearings, hose and mode switches are also part of the standard repair scope.

18V cordless line — TID, TPC, TXS, BP 18

The Festool 18V line (TID 18 impact driver, TPC 18 three-speed drill, TXS 18 compact screwdriver, KAL 18 worklight, HKC circular saws, PSC jigsaws) shares the BP 18 battery — a 4.0/5.2 Ah Standard line and 8.0 Ah Hi-Power with a sophisticated BMS and thermal monitoring. If the tool will not start but the battery indicator shows charge, the most common cause is the brushless controller board or thermal sensor on the tool, not the battery itself.

We diagnose the tool electronics separately from the battery: confirm whether it starts on a stable supply, measure quiescent current, check Hall-sensor signals and the brushless driver MOSFETs. BP 18 batteries are repacked when cells degrade — we replace them with new quality Li-Ion, repair the BMS board (cell balancing, deep-discharge protection, thermal control) and load-test under operation. Cell replacements carry a 6-month warranty.
