Mechanical Dyson repairs: triggers, brush bars, filters and cyclones

Most Dyson units we receive are not battery cases. The most common reason customers come in is an unresponsive trigger switch — the contact group wears out after 2–3 years of daily use, and the vacuum either stops turning on or runs intermittently. We swap the switch module and restore the control circuit. The second frequent fault is brush-bar failure: hair and threads wrap around the shaft (Dyson's anti-tangle design does not always cope), brush-bar bearings wear out, or the brush motor itself burns out. We clean the mechanism, replace the bearings and, when needed, the motor.

Weak suction — one of the most common complaints — is often not a filter problem at all. The culprit can be a clogged cyclone chamber (on V8, V10, V11 dry dust accumulates right before the motor), a pre-motor filter sensor giving a false reading, or even motor bearing wear. We also work on wall-dock contact corrosion, V11/V15 display errors, and Soft Roller head bearing replacement. During diagnostics we use a manometer for airflow measurement, a multimeter for the electronics, and we check each component individually before quoting.

Dyson battery rebuilds — when they actually make sense

Battery rebuilding is another frequent category of Dyson work, but we never offer it as an automatic answer. Before recommending a rebuild we confirm the issue is genuinely the battery: we measure each cell's voltage and internal resistance under load, assess the BMS board, and rule out other causes (filter, motor, switch). Only when we have actually confirmed cell degradation do we propose a rebuild.

When a rebuild is justified, we disassemble the original pack, replace every cell with fresh SONY, MOLICEL, SAMSUNG or PANASONIC lithium-ion cells, and fit a new BMS board. This is not a simple cell swap — we restore the entire energy management system, calibrate it, and run a full charge/discharge cycle before returning the unit. Every rebuilt pack carries a 6-month warranty, considerably longer than most cheap aftermarket packs sold online.
