Cordless vacuum will not charge — repair in Riga
Your cordless vacuum has stopped charging — the indicator will not light up, the charging dock does not respond, or the battery drains within minutes? This is one of the most common faults we see from owners of Dyson, Bosch, Samsung, Xiaomi, Philips and other cordless vacuum brands.
At the SATER service centre at Silmaču iela 6 in Riga we have been repairing cordless vacuums since 1993 — over 30 years of consumer electronics expertise. Charging failures can stem from many causes: from oxidised dock contacts that are easy to clean, to completely dead battery cells or a burned-out charging MOSFET on the motherboard. We methodically test the entire charging chain — power adapter, contact pads, wiring harness, BMS board and every individual battery cell — to pinpoint the faulty link. Diagnostics are done on-site and we quote the result and repair cost immediately. If the repair is not cost-effective we will tell you honestly and return the unit with no obligation. Battery replacements carry a 6-month warranty; all other work is covered for 3 months.
Likely causes
- Battery cells dead or swollen — Lithium-ion cells degrade after 300–500 charge cycles — internal resistance rises, capacity falls, and critically worn cells swell. A swollen battery is a safety hazard and must be replaced immediately. We rebuild battery packs using SONY, MOLICEL, SAMSUNG and PANASONIC cells with a fresh BMS board.
- BMS protection activated after over-discharge — If the vacuum sits unused with a flat battery for an extended period, cell voltage drops below the BMS minimum threshold. The protection board locks the pack and refuses to accept a charge — the vacuum appears completely dead. In the lab we bring cells out of deep discharge with a controlled current and check whether the BMS can be unlocked without replacing the cells.
- Charging dock contact pins corroded or bent — The metal contacts on the vacuum and dock (or wall mount) oxidise from moisture and dust. Spring-loaded contacts weaken over time and lose pressure. The vacuum seems to be seated on the dock, but no charge flows. Cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and re-tensioning the springs often fixes the issue without a shop visit.
- Charger adapter failed — no output voltage — The mains adapter can fail due to a power surge, overheating or a damaged cable. The vacuum itself is fine but receives no power. A simple multimeter check reveals whether the adapter is delivering its rated voltage; if not, the adapter needs replacing.
- Internal wiring harness break near battery connector — The internal wires from the battery to the control board pass through tight spots inside the housing and are subject to repeated bending. Over time the conductors fracture at the bend point — the connection is lost and the battery no longer receives charging current. Found by disassembly and continuity testing. The wire must be replaced or re-soldered.
- Motherboard charging circuit MOSFET failure — On the main PCB, charging current passes through a power MOSFET transistor. A voltage spike or short circuit can burn it out, and the board stops delivering current to the battery. This is a component-level repair: we desolder the failed transistor and fit a new one with matching specifications.
What you can check yourself
- Test the charger adapter output with a multimeter — the voltage should match the rating printed on the adapter label.
- Clean the dock contacts with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol — oxide build-up is a frequent cause of no-contact charging failures.
- Check for blinking LED error patterns — flashing codes usually indicate a specific fault. Cross-reference with your vacuum's user manual.
- Try charging for 30 or more minutes — if the BMS has locked after deep discharge, some models can self-reset once current is applied.
- Verify that the wall outlet works by plugging in another device. Inspect the adapter cable for damage.
When to bring it in
If the vacuum does not respond to either the dock or a direct adapter connection, if the battery is visibly swollen or deformed, or if the indicator shows an error code that does not clear after a restart, it is time to bring the unit in. At SATER on Silmaču iela 6 we perform a full charging-circuit diagnostic, identify the faulty component and quote an exact repair price. Call +371 67377002.
